   “Ashes.” I purred in his ear. It was early in the morning on a Saturday. There was no touring for a few more weeks and I had him alone for a few hours before the kids woke up. I climbed on top of him and kissed his cheek softly. He let out a little groan and opened one eye. I smiled down at him and he smirked as best he could in his tired state.

The horse's eyes were black, the thick lashes flickered vaguely and flies trailed over the exposed flesh. He picked at the little insects and stroked at the bruise that had formed on the animal's head, lamenting how the fur slid aside to show a rough and raw stretch of skin.

'What you've been through,' he murmured, pressing his head close to the horse's so that none of his own men or the guards that had escorted them into the encampment could hear him, 'what we've both been through – and only to fail.'

Frank’s POV
I sit relaxingly on the front steps, smoking cigarettes and playing ‘Pansy,’ a somewhat sad attempt to change my thoughts. Whilst strumming chords I see two feet pace towards and I stop immediately, gazing up at the person in front of me.

I pace happily towards the front door, confused with thoughts, but happy, none-the-less. I gripped the door handle and tried to turn the handle, expecting it to be locked, to my surprise it turned with ease and I began to open it slightly, waiting for my punishment from mom…if she had even noticed that I left. Again, to my surprise it wasn’t her, instead a short kid with straightened brown hair and glasses hurtled towards me and wrapped his arms around my neck causing me to stumble a few steps back. I placed my arms around my litter brother and squeezed him tight. “Gee you came home,” he cheered.
